Your body listens everything your mind says. Stay Positive
Yog Nidra or yogic sleep is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping typically induced by guided meditation.
Yog Nidra is a state in which the body is completely relaxed and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness is different from meditation, in which focus on a single point is required. In Yog Nidra, the practitioner remains in a state of light withdrawal of the 5 senses (pratyahara) - with four senses (see, smell, taste, touch) being internalised, i.e., actively withdrawn; and only the fifth sense - hearing, connects the individual to the instructions being given. The goals of both the yogic paths - yog nidra and meditation, are the same, wherein an individual reaches a state of meditative consciousness called samadhi. It is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness.
Satyanand Saraswati claimed to have experienced yog nidra when he was living with his Guru Sivanand Saraswati in Rishikesh. The form of practice taught by Satyanand includes eight stages (internalisation, sankalp, rotation of consciousness, breath awareness, manifestation of opposites, creative visualization, sankalp and externalisation).
Yog nidra improves heart rate variability whether or not it is preceded by a session of hatha yoga asanas. The regular practice of yog nidra has been found to reduce tension and anxiety. The autonomic symptoms of anxiety such as headache, giddiness, chest pain, palpitations, sweating, insomnia and abdominal pain respond well. It has been used to help soldiers from war cope with post-traumatic stress disorder. Studies suggest that yog nidra can alleviate stress and improve self-esteem.
