We believe that the classical yoga practices form the backbone of all physical work-ins. Since, Yoga-Sastra believes that the influence of the mind on the body is far more powerful than the influence of the body on the mind, hence, each of our classes have the following tenets as the foundation –
- Mental Exercises (Yamas and Niyamas), and
- Physical Exercises (Asanas)
Asanas, that are ideally divided into two principal groups: Cultural and Meditative – secure the physiological advantages for a physical culturist and the physiological and the spiritual advantages for a spiritual culturist. The precise instructions - focussing on staying aware, respecting the body limitations, deepening the posture through breath, finding balance and aligning individual energies with the cosmic energies help maintain the nervous and endocrine system in excellent health. Each asana is usually repeated twice in order to decondition the wrong posture and condition the right one. Meticulous attention is paid to the technique of adopting and releasing each practice. Many a times the practices are modified to suit the individuals’ needs and the body limitations.
Each class has an element of pranayama and cleansing (kapalbhati, tratak, etc.) incorporated in it.
